About Judy Eckhart

Judy Eckhart

“100’ from Home”

The most important influence in Judy Eckhart’s painting is place, her surroundings. To be able to take in the beauty and solitude of her surroundings is the most important source of themes in her gouache paintings. Currently she is working on a 100 painting series called “100’ from Home”. All of the paintings are from reference views she photographed within her yard surrounding her home in Santa Fe, NM.

Coming soon will be a second smaller series called “Walking Through Santa Fe”.

Judy Eckhart has been involved in art since childhood, and that made it easy to decide to get a BFA in graphic arts and illustration. She has worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Mississippi and Illinois. After a move to Pennsylvania, she switched to fine art watercolor and was represented by three galleries. Additional relocations brought her to the Midwest and finally to Santa Fe, which put a hold on displaying in galleries, but she continued to paint and explore new mediums for her own continuing education.

After using acrylics for decades, she switched to gouache, an opaque watercolor during the Covid pandemic. The techniques and soft appearance of the gouache is a refreshing change and interesting challenge. These paintings have all been protected with Archival UV spray varnish and coated with hand-applied Dorland’s Wax for added protection.
