Casava paste was the resist traditionally used in Yoruba indigo dyed adire textiles. Nike, one of Nigeria's foremost artists, is credited with introducing the more versatile wax resist as well as narrative content into the Yoruba fiber arts.

Wax batik is a favorite medium of many Osogbo artists today.
